Alienis is an hack of Battle City developed by Inventor and released in the early 2000s on various famiclones such as a few PowerJoy systems. The game was later rereleased by Waixing and was further hacked by Nice Code Software to create Pulver and various other hacks.

Overview[]

The game is a rather advanced hack of Battle City just like the other Shanghai Paradise hacks. You control a warship as you navigate around the map needing to destroy enemy ships while also protecting your home base which is represented as a bunker on an island.

You move around a open maze which is bizarrely depicted with having clouds in it even though you're supposed to be battling over water. Unlike the original Battle City, you can take multiple hits before you die just like some of the later enemies in the original game. Each time you hit an enemy, they loose part of their ship before it eventually explodes. The most notable change are the levels which now feature scrolling.

The game also has various powerups that you can use which include: A shield that covers your ship for a few seconds, A stopwatch that stops all enemies, A grenade that destroys all other ships, An extra life, and a P symbol that upgrades your ship to both take more damage and have more firepower.

Alternate Versions[]

Warship[]

Basic Title Screen hack made by Waixing

Engine Power[]

Likely the first fully-hacked variant of the game. Features completely overhauled graphics, with the player and enemy ships changed to tanks. The music is removed, with same sounds as the original Battle City. This game credits Nice Code as "Dongxin Soft".

Tank 2002[]

Seemingly named in reference to the Tank 1990 hack of Battle City. The game may have been intended to release as a "pair" with Bomberman 2002.

Pulveration[]

Uses similar graphics to the Engine Power variant (though they are not exact). Adds a loud rumbling sound during gameplay; this was carried over into all further variants. A VT03 version of this hack is known to exist and has redrawn graphics. Also known as Pulveration

Bugs[]

Changes the player into a ladybug who shoots at other insects. Features a "Copyright 2004" legal notice.

Ice Age[]

Changes the players into monsters; the background assets are changed to be coated in ice. Credited to Nice Code as "Dongxin Soft".

Monster War[]

Based on the Ice Age variant; alters the player sprite and changes the enemies into aquatic life (such as fish and lobsters). Credited to Nice Code as "Dongxin Soft". A VT03 variant is also known to exist featuring new graphics.

Pulver (Waixing)[]

Changes the tanks into bugs; despite the name and theming, it is unrelated to the Pulveration and Bugs variants. Adds a music track that plays throughout the entire game. It is unknown if this is a version fully customized by Waixing, or if it is an obscure preexisting variant.

Pulver (Waixing, VT03)[]

VT03-enhanced version of Waixing's 8-bit version; graphics are given added colors/shading.

Pulverize[]

Basic title screen variant of Pulveration.

Trivia[]

  • For some odd reason, your ship can sometimes have it's fire locked up or can get stuck in places with no tiles in them. This is likely caused by a glitch or possibly poor programming
