This is a fanmade hack by Greg Pabich (aka [http://www.romhacking.net/community/1474/ PacoChan]), created in 2011. The premise was to fix the glitch at the 4th level in the original version - that nothing would happen after defeating the Ape Man - and allow access to the "Lost Levels", as well as fixing other bugs in the game. It was also released on cartridge after a successful Kickstarter. <ref>http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/343248998/cheetahmen-ii-the-lost-levels</ref><ref>http://cheetahmengames.com</ref>

Cheetahmen II is an unreleased game by Active Enterprises, made for the NES in 1992 and intended to be the sequel to Cheetahmen from Action 52. The game was planned to be released in 1993, but was never officially released. A warehouse containing 1,500 copies was discovered in 1997 and the game was sold on secondary markets.

Story

Doctor Morbis is back with a new sub human! He wants to stop the Cheetahmen (sic) from ruining his evil plans! He creates the Ape Man. The strongest sub human yet! Doctor Morbis plans to use the Ape Man to destroy his failed expirement... (sic) Aries! Apollo! And Hercules! You must help the Cheetahmen fight Doctor Morbis and his evil team of mutants.

Gameplay

In Cheetahmen II the player assumes the role of one of the three Cheetahmen (Aries, Apollo and Hercules), and upon defeating an enemy boss at the end of the second level, they switch to the next Cheetahman for the following two levels as in the Action 52 version. However, the order that they appear is reversed in this game, with Apollo being used in the first two levels.

Reception

Among NES fans, Cheetahmen II is renowned for being among one of the all-time worst games ever made for that system, though the characters themselves gained a huge cult following afterwards. Cheetahmen II in particular is buggy, incomplete, and widely regarded as virtually unplayable.

Many users are arranging Cheetahmen II's in-game music for various kinds of music. These postings on the website amounted to more than 100 works within a few days after the first one.

Trivia

  • The first level seems to have parts attempting to mirror world 1-1 of Super Mario Bros, and the coins that can be collected from hitting invisible boxes is also from that game.
  • for some reason each level appears to use a different engine, as some have a jumping glitch like in the first game and depending on the level, different sound effects are used.
  • Due to a bug, it is impossible to gain access to the levels in which one assumes the role of Cheetahman Aries without altering the ROM image or being the lucky recipient of a glitch that very rarely starts the game on these two levels. You can see those two levels here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXR7aL5UJRw
  • Due to how messed up the game is, each copy works differently. This being probably because of how each copy is made differently with the soldering, etc. After all, it most likely isn't made with a machine, instead most likely by hand.
  • The cartridges for this game were just Action 52 cartridges, another game by Active Enterprises, with a CM2 label on the back.
  • On the cartridge label, the game is misspelled as "Cheetamen 2".
