This article is about Digimon Ruby. For games with a similar title, see Digimon (disambiguation).

Digimon Ruby is a bootleg RPG for the Game Boy Advance based on the second Digimon anime. It was first made in Chinese, and then haphazardly translated into English. Some of the game's graphics are stolen from Terranigma and Dokapon: Monster Hunter.

Plot

The plot loosely follows the first arc of Digimon Adventure 02, with several changes.

The story centers around Dafu (Davis/Daisuke) from 02. During a camping trip, Dafu gets transported by a portal to the Figures world (Digital world) and has to find a way back to the Human world while uncovering and putting a stop to Wild dragon reform's (Digimon Emperor's) plan along the way.

Development

The sound engine is stolen from Natsume's Keitai Denjuu Telefang 2, rather than Capcom's Mega Man series. No specific company is credited in-game or on the boxart, but this RPG shows a few signs of being developed by Vast Fame:

  • Much of Digimon Ruby's soundtrack is recycled from several games that are heavily associated with Vast Fame, specifically Devil Island, Digital Monsters 3 (which have appeared on several Vast Fame multicarts), Zook Hero Z, Zook Hero 2, Shi Kong Xing Shou, Shui Hu Shen Shou and Crazy Richman 2 (all of which are confirmed Vast Fame games).
  • The battle system, as well as some of the attacks and status-altering moves, are recycled from Pokemon Ruby, Digimon Pocket and Digital Monsters 3, all of which have editions that reuse the soundtracks of Shi Kong Xing Shou and Shui Hu Shen Shou.
  • Most of the creatures' battle sprites are recycled from Digimon Saphire for the Game Boy Color, which reuses all of the Crazy Richman 2 soundtrack.
