Domino Block is an advanced hack of Taito's 1986 arcade game, Arkanoid. It was developed by Wonwoo System and released in 1996 as the only known game that the company developed.

Overview[]

The game plays similarly to the original Arkanoid and even retains most of the original music and graphics (including the Vaus itself), but the game removes enemies and most powerups in favor of "Dominos" and "Rockets". Dominos can clear entire rows of blocks until they touch a wall or golden block. Rockets make the Vaus lunge forward and destroy all blocks in it's path.

The player starts each life with 3 dominos and 2 rockets. They can earn more by catching ammo that falls from broken blocks, similar to the original Arkanoid. The player can also get a powerup that acts the same as Laser from the original Arkanoid, albeit with only 5 shots.

The game is split into a total of 6 rounds with 5 stages each. Each world in the game features an anime woman stolen from Japanese home computer games such as Doukyuusei for the NEC PC-98. Depending on if Strip Tease is enabled or not in the DIP switch, each round will reveal less and less of the woman until they are nude. Notably, the game will never show any nipples. If the player clears every round in the game, they a sent back to stage 1 with a new stage 7. In this stage, the player needs to complete round 1 of each stage. After completing this stage, the game will end.

Trivia[]

  • Typing in "SEX" in the high score board still reverts it to "H !"
  • The hardware uses an extra background layer and palette RAM.
