DreamGEAR, known for previously making NES based Plug-N-Plays, created a line of portable game systems known as "My Arcade" in 2014. These units consist of 16-bit hardware rather than 8-bit, and consist of mostly Nice Code Software. Similar to the Zone systems, they are mostly sold in dollar stores and other places with small toy aisles.
Models and Games
So far, two models of these have been released, and they are both in shells that resemble the Wii U Tablet controller. The first model seems to use Game Boy Advance technology (at least judging by another clone system), while the other most likely uses OneBus VT03. Both units have many repeated games on them with different graphics and sounds.
The first and more common model released contains 140 Jungletac games. Unlike most DreamGEAR games, which mostly try to avoid obvious copyright infringement, some of the games are clones of various NES games like Bomberman, Donkey Kong Jr., and Door Door. Some of them also rip off sprites of characters from GBA and SNES games, and voice clips are stolen from cartoon characters. A second revision exists containing 220 Jungletac games, with many of their 8-bit games among the new additions.
Another model released, also known as the Gamer V Portable, also has 220 games, but none are the same as on the previous units. This one contains the usual DreamGEAR games with 16-bit graphics. Unlike the last system, these games try to hide copyright as much as possible (Ex: removing Elmo from River Jump). While most games included are by Nice Code, including their VT03 games such as Curly Monkey 2, some games seem to be either original or from a different company, such as Guard Radish.
The current model, released in 2015, features 200 8-bit Nice Code games along with several hacked games by Inventor. Unlike the previous systems, this one is shaped like an arcade machine, and seems to use the same casing as the iPhone accessory Arcadie. This one features many common multicart hacks like Turtles (Raphael in Lode Runner) and Powerpuff Girl (Blossom in Dino-Riki) with their titles removed, as well as unhacked versions of Tag-Team Pro Wrestling and Pinball.
Trivia
- On the first model, you can access a control test menu by holding down A and B while turning the system on. By doing this, you can see that the start button is actually just a duplicate A button, meaning they probably intended to release a second unit.
- In the arcade-shaped unit, the Nature Clan logo is removed from Nature Clan games like Spring World. This could mean that Nature Clan is a company rather than the name of the character.
