BootlegGames Wiki

DreamParaPara is an unauthorized adaptation of Konami's ParaParaParadise series of rhythm games that was produced for the Sega Dreamcast. The game was distributed on disc and sold in a bundle with a custom Dreamcast controller that is a near identical copy of the controller bundled with the PlayStation 2 ParaParaParadise game. Information regarding the game's release or production is unclear, although it has been documented on the Internet since at least January 2003.[1] Copies of the game are very rare, and no dumps of the game disc are known to exist.

Overview[]

The game is loosely based on the PS2 version of ParaParaParadise, as it features the same game modes from that version of the game (regular one and two player modes, one and two player "Endless" modes, and training) as well as a similar looking main menu modelled after the PS2 version. Twelve songs are known to be included in DreamParaPara, all of which are contemporary Eurobeat songs (presumably used without license) - while three of these songs are also present in ParaParaParadise games, the rest are not used in any games from that series and are likely songs chosen by the developers of DreamParaPara. While directly based on ParaParaParadise, most of the graphics in the game do not appear to come from any game in that series.

The core gameplay in this game is identical to that of the official ParaParaParadise games: the player has to hover their limbs over parts of the controller bundled with the game in time to the corresponding arrows that scroll up while a background video plays. Most, if not all of the background videos in this game consist of professional recordings of choreographed Para Para dances.

Trivia[]

  • The "1-2 Players" graphic on the back of this game's case and on the disc label is also present on the packaging of the unlicensed PlayStation games Photo Hunter and Photo Hunter 3. It is unclear if this implies any connection between the developers or publishers of the aforementioned games and DreamParaPara.
  • The presence of the terms "Disk One" on the game's case and "Vol:1" on both the spine of the case and the game disc imply that it was intended to be the first installment in a series of games. It is unknown if further DreamParaPara installments were released or planned.
