Fighting Hero is an unlicensed fighting game created by Mega Soft in 1991, based off Street Fighter.

Fighting Hero's Gameplay

This game is a simple fighting game. The controls are similar to the original Street Fighter in that A punches and B kicks. However, they are often criticised because for an attack to be initiated the player has to let go of the button first, which is unorthodox for a fighting game. As well as this, the player can't attack while walking or jumping forwards or backwards. As a result, this makes the game almost unplayable. Like in SF, the player can't choose what character to play as; instead they're forced to play as Leon, who looks almost exactly like Ryu. Also like in SF, there are five different continents to play through: Asia, Oceania, Africa, Europe and North America. (Oceania is named Australia and North America is named American) The first fight can be chosen from any of the first four continents, each continent having one fighter as opposed to two like in SF. The audiovisuals are mostly original, apart from Leon who is based off Ryu, Masa (from Asia) being based off Geki and possibly Joe (the final boss) being based off Adon. The ending is a series of stats screens for each character, followed by a credits sequence which uses an 8-bit rendition of Secret Agent Man by Johnny Rivers. There are no continues in this game, meaning that losing the fight will automatically result in a game over and the player must start from the beginning.

Trivia

  • In the 2-player mode, the players aren't given any names, with player 1 being Leon in the 1-player mode and player 2 being a recolour.
