Fuzhou Waixing Computer Science & Technology Co. Ltd. (福州外星電腦科技有限公司), currently known as Waixing Education Technology and sometimes Waixing Technology (外星科技) is a Chinese company that primarily developed and published video games. The company's name ("waixing") is the Chinese word for "alien" or "extraterrestrial".
They are known for developing and/or publishing unlicensed games for the Famicom and Game Boy Color, as well as releasing various games for plug and play systems and producing electronics. As well as originally developed games, they also released Chinese translations of Japanese Famicom games under their own name, such as Fire Emblem.
As of writing, it is unknown what the full extent of Waixing's current activity is, although their more recent products include Android-based game consoles bundled with controllers that strongly resemble the Wiimote controllers sold with the Nintendo Wii. Some of such consoles were sold in North Korea under the Moranbong brand.[1]
History[]

Waixing was formed on November 18, 1993. In their earlier years, they released generic multicarts. After the split of a joint venture between an unknown company and Micro Genius called Chengdu Tai Jing Da Dong Computer Co,[2] Tai Jing Da Dong would be absorbed into Waixing, becoming one of their branches developing games. Future staff of Waixing would also join when Hengmao Electronics, UMC's mainland development team, was closed after the failure of the Super A'can.
Starting around 2005, Waixing would also begin developing games designed to be built into various plug and plays, multi-game systems, and multicarts. Many of the consoles that include these games were manufactured by Subor and Macro Winners, who would notably include Waixing's games on the Zone 40 and MiWi line of systems respectively. Many of these games were developed for standard Famiclone hardware and the VT03 enhanced Famiclone from V.R. Technology, which particularly adds an enhanced color palette. Waixing would later develop games for VT168 hardware and 16-bit and 32-bit systems in the Sunplus SPG line.
According to their website, Waixing is now the "Z R & D center" of Zhong Shan Binary Star Educational Technology Holdings Co., Ltd. Waixing is also the parent company of - or at least in close cooperation with - Subor, a prolific manufacturer of keyboard-based and standard Famicom clones, as well as other varieties of consoles and electronics. This company is also based in Zhongshan.

- ESC Co. Ltd. (Which likely stands for Extraterrestrial Software Company, as their Chinese name is Alien Technology. They used this name between 1993 and 1996).
- Fuzhou Coolboy Electronics Co., Ltd (福州酷哥电子有限公司) - certain Waixing games were re-released under this name (usually with title hacks). Some carts have both companies' names, and most Coolboy Famicom carts use the same shell as Waixing's without the moulded Waixing logo, so this may be an alias for Waixing or at least a very closely related company. Probably related to the Coolboy series of handheld consoles by Subor.

Famiclone/Plug & Play console games[]
Waixing produced numerous games for use on Famiclone and "plug & play" devices. Many of these titles originate from other game developers (such as Nice Code Software and Cube Technology), and were then altered and re-copyrighted by Waixing. This was seemingly done with actual permission from the respective companies. Waixing is known to have used mainly VT02, VT03, and VT168 hardware for plug & play releases, as well as 16-bit Sunplus SPG hardware and the Sunplus SPG293, an advanced 32-bit chipset. Both Sunplus chipsets would see use in several Wii clones.

Contract Work[]
In the mid-to-late 2000s, Waixing appears to have acted as a contract developer and developed a few games for other companies, typically overseas. As of writing, they are only known to have produced games for California-based companies VTG Interactive Inc. and SDW Games, both of which had Aviram Gerassi as a director. For the former, they would develop Virtual Baseball (named Live! Baseball on its title screen), Virtual Tennis, and Virtual Boxing, three interactive TV sports games that were released as cartridges for use with a proprietary Sunplus SPG288-based console to play the games on and wireless/wired peripherals. For the latter, they would develop the dedicated plug and play games Sudoku: Do You Sudoku?, which runs on Sunplus SPG2xx hardware, and Operation Cobra Strike, a lightgun game.
All of the aforementioned games with the exception of Virtual Boxing are confirmed to have versions that would later be included on generic 16-bit plug and play Wii clone consoles[6][7], which also come with games developed by Waixing. The generic Wii clone version of Virtual Baseball/Live! Baseball, simply named Baseball, still has a version of the VTG Interactive logo from the splash screens in their games partially visible on the banners in one of the stadiums[8], implying that the games were developed for VTG Interactive first before being repurposed for generic Wii clone consoles. A year prior to VTG Interactive's founding in 2006, Virtual Boxing and Virtual Tennis were sold on Waixing's English Alibaba store[9]; it is unclear if the VTG Interactive equivalents of these games were released by then. Modified versions of Virtual Tennis would also be produced by JungleTac around the early 2010s for Wii clones using 16-bit Sunplus SPG2xx and 32-bit Sunplus SPG293 hardware, with the Sunplus SPG2xx versions featuring mascot characters directly based on ones used in the Family Sport series of multi-game software developed by Senca.

- Some of Waixing's earliest games mix up Simplified and Traditional Chinese characters.
- Waixing's English name is the romanization of "Alien Planet" (外星 - Wai Xing)
- Waixing released their Famicom games in two different cases: rectangular boxes (original prints) and square boxes (reprints). The square-cased games don't display properly on regular NES systems due to the setup of the pins (which can be fixed with proper soldering) while the rectangular-cased games do. This might be due to the fact that clone systems are cheaper and more readily-available nowadays, so their boards were altered to be primarily compatible with them.
- Several Waixing games appear on multiple bootleg consoles, including "Edacity Snakes", "Hua Rong Dao", and several others.
- For unknown reasons, the GameKing game Brains (a clone of Moai-kun) features the Waixing logo mascot in its intro, implying it is the player's character.[10] As the game was presumably developed by Timetop, the game likely had no actual development connection to Waixing.
