BootlegGames Wiki

The Gamezone (or Game Zone) is a Famiclone-based plug & play console, released in the early 2000s and most commonly distributed in the UK. It was followed by the Gamezone II, a separate console which is noted as having custom NES ports of five arcade games: Asteroids, Frogger, Missile Command, Moon Cresta, and Scramble.

The Gamezone systems were manufactured by Best Long Electron Technology, a company who mainly produced bootleg arcade machines. It is unknown if Best Long Electron developed the five arcade ports found on the Gamezone II, or only commissioned them from another developer. However, the arcade ports are believed to have been developed by ex-Subor developers, as all of them use the same Technos sound engine associated with Subor. The original Gamezone is still manufactured wholesale to this day,[1] though the Gamezone II is not.

Gamezone[]

The original Gamezone was the first to release. It features 118 games though only actually has 93. It shares many traits with the Power Player Super Joy III and other plug'n plays similar to it.

The system is notable for having a surprisingly good-looking menu for such an early plug'n play, even featuring background music.

Gamezone II[]

The Gamezone II is the sequel to the original Gamezone and features a game library that is half new games, half games already on the original. Unlike the original system, it includes the mentioned arcade ports (Frogger, Missile Command, Asteroids, etc) as well as a few other less common games. Notable games include, Double Dragon 2, Spy Hunter, Choplifter, Ghostbusters, Pandamar (which now replaces Super Mario Bros., and is presumably the only Inventor hack featured), and bizarrely even Double Strike and Venice Beach Volleyball which are both their US-released AVE versions.
