JY Company is a company that published many pirate games, most notably many of Hummer Team's games. They appear to have been active from 1992 to late 2003.

Overview

They have released games that were made by Hummer Team and Ei-How Yang. They made a lot of multicarts, the most common are the 4in1. They also made multicarts with more or less games but almost all of their multis don't have repeats. As well as this, many of them include late NES/Famicom releases rarely found on other multicarts such as Rainbow Islands and Mitsume Ga Tooru.

Also, JY hardly ever hacked unlicensed games not made by Hummer Team and Ei-How Yang. They did steal BB Car, Super Donkey Kong 2 and World Hero with copyrights hacked. This means the games weren't made for JY Company.

Aliases

JY has few aliases, some are intentional, some not.

  • YY - used for board code and some labels. (Note the labels using YY for ID are found in Russia mainly).
  • EL - ID used for PCB codes to number Hummer Team's games released after January 1997. Few carts were sold with EL ID on them in Taiwan and Korea.
  • SC - Sometime in 1998, JY changed their name to SC. They released around 11 multicarts with that name before switching back to JY.
  • CK - Only one cartridge is known to use this one, CK-124 (which should be JY-124). The board isn't stolen, JY just used another ID.

History

JY started activities in 1992 (?). They released a few games such as Mario hacks and multicarts. They also put on the market few originals during that period. In late 1994, some experienced developers (known as Hummer Team) joined JY. They made many decent games until 1998 when they left JY for some unknown reason. JY continued to produce Famicom boards with Hummer Team's games under the SC ID until late 1998 where they switched back to JY. They started to release cheap multicarts with common pirate games. All theses multis are very similar, sharing the same menu screen and a label with the same design. JY continued to produce multicarts until late 2003, releasing their last multicart: JY-130.
