Plants Vs. Zombies is a demake of the PopCap game of the same name that is only known to have been released for the ES-2016 console. It is unrelated to the BMB version which was released in Russia as a cartridge.

Overview[]

The game is a very simplistic port of Plants Vs. Zombies heavily based on the official Nintendo DS port of the game. There are only 2 modes, Adventure and Quick Play. Adventure, contrary to its name, is actually a cut-down version of Quick Play from the original game, featuring 24 stages. Quick Play, just like Adventure, is also inaccurate to the original game and is just the Whack a Zombie minigame from the original, but now endless.

Interestingly, instead of Grasswalk (Day Music) playing on each stage in Adventure, Cerebrawl (4-5 Music) plays instead. Same goes for the menu theme, which plays Ultimate Battle (X-10 Music). There are only 12 plants in this version: Cherry Bomb, Pea Shooter, Potato Mine, Lily Pad, Sun-shroom, Repeater, Sea-shroom, Cabbage Pult, Wall-nut, Squash, Melon-pult, and Sunflower. Sun only gives the player one each. The game also only has three types of zombies: Zombie, Conehead Zombie, and Buckethead Zombie. Crazy Dave is also nowhere to be found in this port unlike the BMB version, where he is still kept.

Each level now features a password, likely so the game wouldn't need to save, though they only appear for a few seconds before the level starts.

Trivia[]

  • The Potato Mines in this version can explode, however instead of 14 seconds like in the original it takes somewhere around 45 seconds for it to get ready.
  • Unlike the original, there is a limit to how much plants there are in the lawn, the limit is 18
  • There is a glitch where if you put a plant in the seed slot and remove it, the plant next to it will cost the same price as the one you removed
  • This game, along with Fruit Ninja HD, Bullethead, and Fishing Joy are exclusive to the ES-2016. The developer of these games are unclear, but they share extremely similar qualities to a fan made Angry Birds port for the Sega Genesis that would later be widely pirated, such as the presence of a movable cursor required to interact with the game and extensive use of sound effects. The Angry Birds port was developed by a Chinese person going by the online alias "Zhengyaxin_8bit" and was originally released online in 2012 as a ROM and source code (the latter no longer being available). His involvement in the ES-2016 original games is unclear.
  • In the ROM, there are unused seed sprites for the Puff-Shroom, Fume-Shroom, Kernel-Pult, and Snow Pea. There's also sprites for I, Zombie, Slot Machine, and an entire unused Minigames section.
