Pokémon Gold Silver(Chinese: Pokémon 金.銀) is a platformer based on Pokemon made by an unknown developer for SNES.

Overview

Level 2 with a stolen background from Seiken Densetsu 3.

You can play as two characters, Chikorita(which is mispelled Chokorita) and Waninoko. The game has a total of four stages, and then a final boss which as Mewtwo. Since the game uses the same engine as Digimon Adventure and Pocket Monster, the gameplay is identical in control and physics. Although there is a character select screen at the beginning, the player can switch between characters freely by pressing Select anytime within the game. Chikorita can temporarily fly by tapping the A button. Pressing A while as Waninoko makes the screen flash like lightening, but this move doesn't seem to have any effect on nearby enemies and may have not been fully programmed.

Aside from enemy and character sprites, most graphics appear to be stolen from various sources. Among the more obvious is the backgound of the second level being taken from Seiken Densetsu 3's intro, and the entire fourth and final stage being copied from the secodn level of Pocket Monster II for Genesis. Some of the enemies including the Butterfree, Pideot and Oddish sprites are also directly from Pocket Monster II, which could mean the game shared the same developers.

Trivia

This Togepi sprite only appears once in the game in level four.

  • The Chikorita sprite also appears, albeit in 8-bit form, in Pocket Monsters Crystal for GBC. What connection this signifies in not known.
  • A Togepi sprite makes a single appearance in the last level of the game and doesn't appear anywhere else.
  • Levels three and four can be finished within a matter of seconds by using Chikorita's flying ability to go right to the top left of the screen of both levels.
