Sepia Go! (暴走塗鴉 Sepia Go! Bàozǒu Túyā Sepia Go!) is a port of Splatoon released by Nine Tour (also known as 9Game) exclusively for Android-compatible devices on June 26, 2016.

Overview[]

The game is a basic clone of Splatoon, as it features multiple modes and character customization just like the original game. The first mode is a version of Turf War, where two teams of players play against each other to cover the most amount of ground in ink. You can also change between two modes, a humanoid mode where you shoot ink, and a squid mode where you can swim around in your team's ink for faster movement. You can also use your team's ink to kill other players as well, or by using other weapons such as Splat Bombs and other special weapons. Whichever team has the most amount of ink in 3 minutes wins.

The game also features a single player mode which is a port of Octo Valley, where you complete stages with platforming and puzzle solving. All the level layouts and characters featured in the game remain the same. Inkopolis Plaza itself is nearly identical to the original game, even down to the Miiverse sticker featured on one of the trash cans still being present, even though the obvious lack of support for it.

The game also seems to have a diamond currency, which can be used to buy various things. Most likely coins and pieces of gear or other equipment.

Reception[]

While the initial reaction from the game's trailer was thought of as an impressive port of Splatoon to mobile devices, it quickly soured as various articles started calling out the game for being a blatant ripoff of the original. Many reviewers criticized the game for its unoriginality, poor graphics, and performance. Most sources also cited the game as being an example of things that have been "Ripped off by China", even though the game was made only made by a group of college students.

Demise[]

By November 2016, Sepia Go! had been quietly abandoned by it's developers. [1] However, in early 2018, the developers attempted to relaunch it as an "original" game by changing the characters and map.[2] The characters would now also appear to be entirely replaced by normal humans instead of humanoid squids. Though this seemed to be short-lived as well, as the game was taken down around 2019. Very little footage of the original game still exists due to most of it being taken down by Nintendo.

An attempt to bring back Sepia GO! was made, so the game could still be able to run. Though it seems to only allow you to play the single player mode from the original game, due to it still technically being offline.

Trivia[]

  • Some versions of the game are known to contain a piece of adware known as "SMSReg.AAE".
