Sheng Jian Chuan Shuo (圣剑传说) is an unlicensed port of Square Enix's GBA role-playing game Sword of Mana by Shenzhen Nanjing for the Famicom.

Overview[]

Much like Nanjing's other RPG ports, very few assets are actually taken from the original game, with the majority of them being taken from other games. The main character's overworld sprite, for instance, is a recolor of Mars Production's Da Hua Xi You's character sprite. All of the music featured is also reused from other Nanjing RPGs: the overworld theme also appears as the menu theme in their own Barver Battle Saga port named Tai Kong Huan Xiang; the title screen theme is also used in Chao Ji Ji Qi Ren Da Zhan A, which is by the same developer.

While the original game is a top-down action RPG (in a similar vein to the Zelda series), Nanjing's port is just a turn-based JRPG. This game suffers from balancing issues and difficulty spikes, making the game nearly unplayable without cheats or excessive grinding. Many elements from the original game were cut as well; for instance, it is only possible to play Sumo's (the male protagonist) story here, with Fuji (the female deuteragonist) appearing as a secondary party member.

Trivia[]

  • There also exists a title screen hack made by Subor called Yi Tian Chuan Shuo (倚天传说). It is unknown if Subor created this rerelease with Nanjing's permission or not.
