Splicevision is a unauthorized clone of Coleco's Colecovision released by the Brazilian telephone company, Splice, sometime during the early-to-mid 1980s. The system did not sell well due to it being more expensive compared to it's competitors.

Overview[]

The system itself uses a entirely different design compared to the Colecovision, which resembles a VHS or cassette player. The controllers themselves are very similar to the ones seen on the original system. Cartridges sit atop the system similar to the original Colecovision. Due to the system's shape, no Colecovision expansion accessories are compatible. The Splicevision comes in tan, white, and black.[1] The console also comes with Spitfire, a pirated version of Looping.

Notably, both the BIOS screen for the system, and the system's series of pirated games, modify the Colecovision logo to say "Splicevision" and credit it to Splice[2] (similarly to the Bit 90). They are also translated into Portuguese. The cartridges for this system are much taller than the ones for the Colecovision, and feature artwork from different sources. All games for the system are also renamed (e.g Monkey Dong = Donkey Kong).
