Subor Karaoke (小霸王卡拉OK) is a karaoke game developed and published by Subor around the early to mid 90s for the NES/Famicom. The game is notable for being one of the few karaoke simulators for the system.
Overview[]
The cartridge features an irregular shape and has two microphone jacks which are used for the two microphones that are bundled with the cart. The cart also has three switches which seem to change settings on the microphones.
Gameplay[]
When you start the game, you are greeted by a menu featuring a tree and a bird. The tree has 3 bird houses with the options, Random, Song Request, and Order written on them. Pressing A picks Random, Select picks Song Request, Start picks Order, and B sends you to a help screen. The only difference between these options is that Random puts songs in a random order, Song Request allows you to select which order the songs will play in, and Order presumably puts songs in their correct order.
The game is a simple karaoke game where words light up at the bottom of the screen in time with chiptune renditions of songs and you are meant to use the microphone to sing along to them. The rest of the screen is taken up by an animated background.
Trivia[]
- Smaller versions of this game are known to be featured in select Subor Chinese and English Computer Learning Cards such as V5.0.
- The game uses assets from Unchained Melody Multicarts.
- Currently, the game isn't properly emulated on most emulator and usually just doesn't boot. Even on emulators that support the game, the backgrounds seem to be completely missing.
