Tank 1990 is a hack of the NES/Famicom game Battle City, developed and released in 1990 by Yanshan Software. It changes the levels of the original game.
The original release was in the form of a multicart containing 14 different sets of either level hacks, difficulty hacks, or both. Labeled from "Tank A" to "Tank N". Later releases only feature the Tank A mode, disabling the 14-in-1 selection menu.
Overview[]
Each version contains 50 levels, opposed to the 35 original. There are 2 new weapons: a ship that allow the tanks to move in the water and a gun that increase your power to maximum and make you invulnerable to three enemy shots. The enemies tanks can catch the power ups and every tank type may have shielding. The players tanks start with the first upgrade of the original game. You can also hold the B button as turbo fire.
Unlike most other hacks, Tank 1990 has been put on almost as many multicarts as the original game (290 to 295). It has also been hacked and separated into different games. It has also been hacked to make Future Tank, Sea War 2000, Some versions of Tank (Waixing) and City A 2000/City B 2000.
Versions[]
Multiple versions of this hack are known to exist. Including Tank 1989 which is an earlier version and Tank 1991 which came later. The main differences between these versions and 1990 is that some of the sets still keep the original maps, but some include new sets of maps. There also exists several "Monthly" versions of Tank 1990. The first known one is 1989.10, then 1990.1, 1990.2, 1990.7 (Undumped), and multiple versions of 1991 which feature a Tank I and a Tank II. Two other versions also released in 1992 and 1994 respectively.
Trivia[]
- Tank 1990 could arguably be more well-known than the original Battle City due to it being almost as pirated as the original Battle City was.
Gallery[]
The artwork for the box was stolen from a Famicom Disk System game called Reflect World.
