Tetris (으뜸소프트) is a conversion of the Atari version of Tetris to Arkanoid hardware. It was developed by D.R. Korea and released in 1989. It was later given a homeport to the MSX the same year.
Overview[]
The game is a basic clone of Tetris. You try to move and fit various types of "Tetrominos" in order to make lines and clear part of the board, which gives you points. The more lines you clear in one row, the more points that you get. If the tower gets to the top of the screen, you get a game over. Two people can play the game simultaneously, but not against each other.
Unlike the original game, every 40 lines you make, the entire board disappears and then the blocks start getting faster and faster. Strangely, the score isn't calculated by the amount of points you get from clearing lines, but instead on how many lines you've made.
MSX Version[]
A home port of this game released the same year is known to exist for the MSX series of computers. It was developed by Uttum (Best Soft) and published by Zemina.
The port itself has only a few differences between itself and the original arcade game. Most notably, new music and the lack of a title screen.
Trivia[]
- On first boot up, a string appears "ALL RIGHT RESERVED D.R. KOREA" and right below that "KENTO & POBY (KPAI)" This likely means that either of them is Kwang-Ho Cho. Who also developed News. They also seem likely to of developed Hexa as well.
- The music from the game is stolen from Treasure of Usas, originally developed by Konami. The theme for Dunhuang Ruins and Hunza Ruins for the Arcade and MSX versions respectively.
- Strangely, this game is featured on the Multicart 31-in-1 by Retrohard, even though it is the only Korean game featured and isn't technically a Zemina game.
