Upin & Ipin 3 is a hack of Mitsume ga Tooru (which was based on Osamu Tezuka's manga of the same name), developed by Wellminds in 2010. It is based on the Malaysian animated TV show Upin & Ipin. The game was likely designed for use on V-COM's Famiclone systems; it has also appeared on Wellminds' own handhelds (such as the MOGIS 246-in-1), as well as a few early Play Vision Portable models. Due to V-COM seemingly having an official license to the series, this could potentially be considered an "official" Upin & Ipin game.

Overview[]

The title screen uses a different logo design than any official Upin & Ipin media. The intro cutscene has bizarrely been changed to feature Upin as the protagonist, and Ipin (Upin's twin brother) as the villain (contrary to their relationship in the original show); Wato Chiyoko is left intact. All other sprites of the protagonist and antagonist have been changed to Upin and Ipin, respectively. The Tomy logo is changed to read "2010 New Game, Wellminds Tech".

Trivia[]

  • Some VCOM consoles based on Game Boy Advance hardware feature a PocketNES conversion of the game, labeled as "Upin & Ipin 6" in the selection menu; it is unknown if this is a title screen hack.[1]
  • Oddly, an unknown 15000-in-1 system (986-872B) features a game labeled "U & I 2" (presumably "Upin & Ipin 2", in connection with the VCOM hack U&I Man III), which is merely the original Mitsume ga Tooru with its title screen removed.
  • The hack changes sprites for an unused cutscene in the game, as well as some unused sprites.
